Modern languages school trip

Year 7 and 8 students recently visited the Lingua Centre at Hillcrest School.  The Lingua centre is set up as a European village and students had to show passports they had created in order to go through make believe customs.  This was a great opportunity for them to practise speaking Spanish alongside teachers at the school through a carousel of activities.  They also had the opportunity to change pounds into euros and spend them in the clothes shop, bakery, café, tourist office and pharmacy!

Harborne Hill School was awarded Sportmark in February 2009 For ensuring at least 90% of its students across the school were doing 2 hours of high quality PE and sport each week. We at Harborne Hill pride ourselves on providing opportunities for our youngsters to engage in activities accross the PE curriculum so everyone has the opportunity to achieve. The award lasts for 12 months and we hope to maintain the standards required in the coming year to keep hold of the status achieved.

Back to Back

Year eight students worked with the Birmingham Repertory Theatre to write a script that was then performed and filmed at the National Trust property, Back to Backs

Back to Backs

The students were inspired by the property and used the lives and stories from people who lived and worked there as a stimulus to create a script, which they later performed. The play is about a family living in pre-war, back-to-back housing and tells many stories about historic Birmingham.

The students visited Back to Backs and researched stories from people who lived and worked at the property. The students worked with members of staff from the National Trust, met George Saunders who owned the Tailor Shop in the 1930's, and worked with a local community group to retrace and share their family history.

At Harborne Hill School we strongly believe that the Arts offer a unique dimension in the experience of everyone. The Arts are an important element in an all round education and the disciplines are relevant to life in general. This commitment to the arts has recently been recognised with the achievement of the Artsmark Silver Award. This award recognises the wide variety of Drama, Music, Visual Arts and Dance opportunities that the school provides. The teaching and learning in these four subjects is strengthened and supported by creative work and approaches across the school and extended curriculum. Harborne Hill School ensures that staff also have arts experiences and training to enrich their practice and support creativity.

Harborne Carnival

An outstanding carnival for all. Harborne celebrated its tenth carnival bringing business and residents together for a charity funding day. With stalls, jamborees and a brass band, Harborne was certainly the place to be. Over £200,000 has been raised for charities since the carnival was introduced. Harborne Hill School was very proud to participate with their own stall.
